Road Trip: La Veta, CO

July 3,4 & 5, 2015

Our destination for this road trip was La Veta, Colorado.  Specifically, it was Bruce's house which is twenty minutes or so away from La Veta, CO.  Technically he lives in Walsenberg, but he doesn't like Walsenberg so he says he lives in La Veta.  Walsenberg doesn't seem so bad to me.  It wasn't full of scary people like our stop in Pueblo.

Sorry, Puebloans (Pueblites?), y'all got some freaky people living there, or at least walking the aisles of the Safeway we stopped at.

We ate lunch on the porch of the Dog Bar in Cuchara on Friday.  It dumped buckets on us while we ate.  Afterwards we picked up elk and buffalo steaks for a later dinner.

We went golfing on Saturday.  It was a nine hole course.  We went around twice for eighteen holes.  The weather was warm but not too hot, a nice change from the hot weather we'd experienced on the drive.

Bruce's house is in a lightly populated area.  There's a lot of wildlife.  One of the nights I heard about a dozen coyote calling one another.  We never saw a coyote, though.  We did see a lot of other animals.

Ten-lined June Beetle -- La Veta, CO
The june beetles were out.  They fly like they're drunk and seem incapable of landing without crashing.  Dopey things.

Western Scrub Jay -- La Veta, CO
Hunt's Bumble Bee -- La Veta, CO
Mountain Bluebird -- La Veta, CO
Of course, we didn't leave out the rockin'!

    1. Yep. A nice change of pace. With the amount of wildlife around Bruce's house it feels like it could be in a park.
